Altered Portraits Exhibit
Wondering what I'll be doing tonight? I'm checking out the opening of an the Altered Portraits art exhibit at the Stevens Square Center for the Arts. My friend Patrick Maun has work that is included in the exhibit and I am interested in seeing the exhibit is all about. If you are interested, check out the website and make your way down the the exhibit, which runs from April 29 through June 4, 2006.

V-Day
Today is another commercially ruined holiday called Valentine's Day. It is customarily a day when you show someone that you love them. Traditionally, this has been done by the passing of romantic hand-written letters. Of course in the overly commercialized country we live in it is now more about spending ridiculous amounts of money on expensive gifts and less about the romantic sentiment.
What will I be doing this evening? Well... I will be attending an "Anti-Valentine's Day" play, Love Bites, with a female friend of mine who very recently broke up with her liar of a boyfriend; how appropriate to be taking her to this play. One of the main reasons for going is because my friend Brenda will be making her acting debut. If anyone is interested, here's the information:
Tuesday, February 14th at 7:30pm
The 4th Street Theatre
Located on 4th Street between Robert and Minnesota Street in Downtown St. Paul
Tickets are $10. For reservations and information call (651) 224-2603
Happy V-Day for all of you couples and Happy Singles Awareness Day for the rest of us.

Help! I've been MAME'd!

I'm feeling pretty good after drinking my fair share of Icehouse and Jag last night. My friend MojoJojo threw a stellar party last night. It was an "Arcade Warming" party. His arcades are exactly what you think (check the pic); he has stand up and cocktail style arcade machines. These ones are much sweeter, though. Why? Because 1) he made them himself and has them customized to his liking, and 2) because they are running THOUSANDS OF GAMES! Seriously, if there is any old arcade game you can think of, he has it in there. He does this using MAME (multiple arcade machine emulator). I played Altered Beast, Shinobi, some 1942-style fighter jet game that I can't remember the name of, and the classic PacMan. I played until my hands felt like they wanted to fall of... and I hadn't even touched the tip of the iceberg! It definitely made me consider making one or buying one from him. If anyone is interested in one, let me know and I'll get you in touch with him. They are a bit pricy (around $1600), but they are well worth it considering all of the hard work and materials that go into them. Look at it this way, you probably wouldn't think twice about spending that kind of money on a pool table for your rec/bar room, right? Well you would get way more variety and a lot more hours of fun out of an arcade than you would out of a pool table, all for the same price and less floor space. Plus, it can be set up to take quarters, too (it usually plays for free). Honestly, no rec room or basement bar is complete without one. Once I finish off my basement (if I ever start), I'll most likely be putting one down there. There's nothing like that nostalgic feeling of standing at the arcade for hours.

Renaissance Festival: Costumes II
One of the more thought out and creative costumes at the festival was this cute kitty. She had a big ball of pink yard, a tail, drawn on wiskers, cat eyes (contacts), and a cute lil cat ear hat. To be honest, she was kinda hot...
I was lucky enough to have her pose for me for a single picture...
I could picture her as some eccentric character in a childrens story book. I decided to visualize what I thought a picture of her in a childrens book would look like...

Renaissance Festival: Costumes I
Every year, during the months of August and September, the Minnesota Renaissance Festival happens here in the Twin Cities area. I make it a priority to spend at least one day that the festival each year. I love all of the people dressed up and acting out their parts. Of course, with my love for food, it's a must that I eat a smoked turkey leg along with a variety of other delicious foods while I'm there. This is the first year that I have had the opportunity to do some photography at the festival (since I just got my D70 this last Feb). With the bright, extravagant costumes and eccentric behavior, this was a perfect opportunity for me to start working on my candid photography. Enjoy!

It is posted under the "Friends" section, but to view it you must be given permission to see the folder. To get permission, you need to register and then shoot me an email at comments@aeon3.com so I can add you to the list to view the folder. I added my favorite picture from the party here for the general publics viewing pleasure. Hopefully the "model" doesn't get too mad at me for putting it up. Peace.

BBQ Tomorrow
Well the first BBQ of the year is just around the corner (tomorrow) and I'm pretty excited. Most of the people I invited can't make it, but there are still gonna be about 15 or so peeps who will show. If you're one of those who can't make it, don't fret. I'm tentatively planning another BBQ mid-September. Maybe I'll post a pic or two up from the BBQ. Anyways, have a good weekend all. Peace.
