Back from NZ
Well I made it back safe and sound from my 16 day adventure in New Zealand. The trip was great for the most part. After travelling around 31 hours yesterday, needless to say, I was completely exhausted when I got home last night.
I'd like to thank Northwest for completely hosing me over and turning, what had already planned to be a long return, into and even more stressfull and tiring test of my patience. Northewest Airlines, thank you for all of the following great customer service F-ups:
1) Moving my flight up by 2 hours without contacting me or asking me if it was ok. There's nothing like standing at the service desk with a dumbfounded look on your face as you realize they pushed up your flight 2 hours, not leaving you enough time to catch your connecting flight.
2) Having machines that are not able to find me in the system using my passport or credit card. Gotta love how they say you only need a passport or credit card, only to find out that you need the confirmation number, too, if the system isn't working correctly. After travelling 15 year with Northwest and using the E-ticket kiosks MANY times, it was great to have the machines not be able to find me in the system, as they should, when I was trying to check-in for my connecting flight home after an already long travel day.
3) Telling me I missed the 45-minute check-in limit and informing me that I cannot get the on plane that they moved me up to that I missed because their machines weren't working correctly and because they only had 2 people working, both of which were too busy to help me immediately.
4) Having no one working that could possibly override the 45-minute system lockout to get me on the plane that they caused me to miss.
5) Not being able to guarantee that I will be able to make the next flight to Minneapolis from LA because I would be flying "stand-by" and the flight was already packed.
But hey, I suppose I should look on the bright side. I got to take a detour through the lovely city of Detroit and spend an extra few hours (on top of the planned 15 hours) on their wonderfully cozy 1972 POS airplanes. Oh yeah, and I hope you like the middle seat, sitting next to a lady that's blaring some crappy musical from her laptop without headphones. Excellent!
I guess the extra flight time gave me time to look back on the beauty that is New Zealand...
